This is a transformational time for Worthington Schools. We need school board members who can meet this moment - big picture thinkers and visionaries to navigate the generational changes that lie ahead.
- Central Ohio is going to see unprecedented growth in the coming years brought on by Intel, Amazon and others. We need to make sure that we are preparing as a district for the challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead. Not preparing is not an option. Change is coming and we must rush to embrace it.
- With the passage of the recent levies and bond issue, our incredible teachers and students will soon have state-of-the-art, architecturally-impressive high school facilities worthy of such a beacon district. But we must not postpone the next phase that will improve the elementary schools since those too are in desperate need of attention. But I understand, the property tax burden is real right now. So let's put our heads together and get innovative! Let's seek to find additional funding sources besides relying entirely on another levy. It is also important that we push for positive changes within our schools to match these impressive physical improvements and advocate for the responsible, transparent allocation of the public’s funds.
- And finally, we must stand firm and defend public education with everything we have from the organized attacks against it. I support public education’s mission to provide instruction and opportunities to all students, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities. With two open seats on the Board, our community is vulnerable and we could see a drastic transformation for the worse if the wrong people are elected to fill these two empty seats who do not share the district’s vision and values.
The decisions we make in the coming years as a district will define who we are as a community. These are legacy years and I have the experience we need now.
